Project Proposal
The theme “creativity in crisis” served as basic inspiration for my project. I knew immediately that I wanted to create a painting that conveys the feelings of frustration and sadness an artist experiences when they’ve lost their sense of creativity. My initial idea was to paint an individual grieving. I covered my canvas with dark colours at the bottom that gradually became lighter and more colourful towards the top. The colourful, lighter aspects represent creativity and hope. The plan was to have it be just out of reach from the individual who is surrounded by darkness. I want to depict the frustration and loneliness of being out of touch with your craft, particularly during hardship like a pandemic, something I’m sure many artists can relate to. The painting has developed and changed somewhat as I’ve worked on it. The concept of the background has remained the same. However, the depiction of the individual has evolved. It has turned into a self portrait. I will now be illustrating three expressions of my face in frustration, agony and despair merged together. I hope to capture the movement of one in a crisis.
